Résumé

The floating High Pressure approach is very well known in industrial refrigeration. In most cases, it consists of letting the HP “float” a few degrees above the ambient temperature and to adjust the ventilation of the condensers to ensure the required heat rejection. However, a more comprehensive approach would deserve to be adopted in which the optimum trade-off between the reduction of the power input of the condenser’s fans and the increase of the power input of the compressor is identified. This paper presents the method, the optimization algorithm and the results obtained in an industrial configuration. Results show that several local optimal conditions exist depending on the operational constraints (e.g., the availability of the components, the running orders, the minimum acceptable VEV value, and the wet bulb temperature), but only the first must be sought to obtain interesting results.
