Formation de givre et de brouillard glacé dans les congélateurs industriels fonctionnant dans l'air sursaturé.

Frost and ice fog formation in industrial freezers operating in supersaturated air.

Résumé

Field observations of the operation of industrial freezers indicate that the transition to supersaturated operation can easily occur if proper care is not exercised. Field observations also reveal that operating freezers under supersaturated conditions can significantly accelerate the occurrence of snow-like frost. The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of many years of an experimental research program whose main objective was to study coil frosting and defrosting issues at low temperatures and high humidity conditions in industrial freezers. The idea was to develop tools and protocols that help refrigeration-system designers and freezer operators improve the performance of freezer coils that are particularly prone to the frosting problem and offer the research community accurate calculation tools to predict both frost formation and heat transfer rates in supersaturated freezer air. The paper will give an overview of the research conducted and the conclusions reached.
