Résumé

R-410A is a refrigerant commonly used in air conditioning and heat pump applications that has become the target to be replaced by alternative options with lower global warming potential (GWP). Long term refrigerant solutions are required to provide comparable to improved efficiency with close capacity while having a GWP of less than 300. This threshold has been identified to be the industry-wide average in line with global climate commitments. Various refrigerant blends based on R-32 and R-1234yf (R-454-series) have been identified as potential options with reduced GWP, while providing competitive performance. This paper investigates lower GWP refrigerant blend options of the R454-series as alternatives to replace R-410A. Thermodynamic modeling based on fluid properties followed by an evaluation of a detailed system simulation of a unitary heat pump are described. Heating and cooling performance are evaluated and the refrigerant candidate’s potential as R-410A replacement are discussed.
