Knowing properties of fluids to understand their potentialities in RACHP sector.
Number: 1149
Author(s) : FEDELE L.
Summary
Nowadays, refrigeration industry is facing another challenge, trying to find systems and working fluids with low impact on the global warming. The goal is obtaining increasingly efficient RACHP systems, employing very low GWP fluids, with optimized thermodynamic properties. Regarding primary and secondary fluids, many new substances have been proposed and studied; for the former, natural refrigerants, such as hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide and ammonia, and synthetic chemicals, such as hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs) and hydrochlorofluoroolefins (HCFOs); while, referring to heat transfer fluids, single-phase and two-phase fluids, such as aqueous or non- aqueous solutions, ionic liquids, nanofluids, slurries or PCM nano-emulsions. The knowledge of the thermophysical properties of these substances is fundamental for the analysis and design of refrigeration systems. Several papers have been published in the literature with data on the thermophysical properties of new fluids, but these data can be often affected by errors, producing wrong decisions. This work will try to clarify the situation, pointing out the importance of high-quality experimental data to finally define the potentialities of refrigerants and secondary fluids.
