Innovative heat exchanger design for R717 and R744 cascade refrigeration system.

Number: 0033

Author(s) : NAKAYAMA J.

Summary

Existing heat exchangers (HX) for cascade refrigeration systems are inefficient due to unequal distribution of refrigerant and/or physical limitations of design (e.g. oil residue within plate HX). The new design aims to equalize refrigerant distribution through a fin tube HX placed within a shell vessel. This reduces the risk of compressor wet compression, improves heat transfer distribution, and increases heat transfer efficiency through subcooling of the low side refrigerant.
