Summary
In addition to the therapeutic effect caused by thermal damage of the tumour cells in the frozen aera, cryosurgery has some immunological effect by absorption of freezing-thawing tumour tissue (FTT). On the other hand, it also shows a promoting effect of tumour growth at the step of massive absorption of FTT, that is high zone tolerance. In the present study, the authors examined anti-tumour immunoreactivity induced by FTT using a metastasic hepatic tumour by intra-portal inoculation of colon 26 to BALB/c mouse and the combined effect with the biological response modifier (BRM) such as PSK and OK-432. The following results were obtained: 1) in terms of comparison with 100 mg FTT inoculation survival day was significantly prolonged and number of metastatic nodules of the liver was reduced in 50 mg FTT; 2) in the case of combination use with FTT and BRM, the number of metastatic nodules was significantly reduced in the PSK group, but slightly increased in the OK-432 group; 3) NK and CTL activity of splenocyte showed a higher value in the 50 mg group compared with the 100 mg group and it increased when combined with PSK.
