Performance study of desiccant enhanced ejector-based transcritical CO2 heat pump technology for high-efficiency space cooling.

Summary
Dehumidifying air in building ventilation systems is an essential requirement to improve thermal comfort for the occupants. In humid conditions, the removal of moisture is very energy-intensive. It does not benefit much from current advancements such as inverter systems, as these are very effective mainly for sensible cooling. Desiccant cooling systems with natural gas-fired boilers for regeneration are inefficient and are moving away from CO2 reduction efforts. In this paper, the performance of the hybrid cooling system (HCS), HCS with trans-critical CO2, HCS with ejector-based CO2, and HCS with 90 ℃ heat pumps are computed and compared with the conventional vapour compression system (VCS) for a total cooling load (sensible and latent) of 9.25 KW. HCS with ejector-based CO2 heat pump system was found to be the best, and the system COP was 68.9% more, and the CO2 emissions were reduced by 41% compared to VCS.
