Introduction to the concept of exergy: for a better understanding of low-temperature-heating and high-temperature-cooling systems. Submitted to IEA Annex 37: low exergy systems for heating and cooling of buildings.

Author(s) : VTT, SHUKUYA M., HAMMACHE A.

Type of monograph: Report

Summary

This report, which is included in the AIVC CD-ROM No. 6, is part of the work done within the project realized for the International Energy Agency (IEA), Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems Programme (ECBCS), Annex 37. The general objective of this annex is to promote rational use of energy by means of facilitating and accelerating the use of low valued and environmentally sustainable energy sources for heating and cooling of buildings. Extract from the table of contents: introduction to the concept; mathematical formulations (exergy balance; definitions of exergetic efficiencies; air-conditioning applications); space heating example. In the appendices: thermal exergy contained by a volume of room air; radiant thermal exergy emitted by a wall surface; forms of exergy; example of exergetic efficiencies; exergy calculation for space heating.
