WBIWTLSDP

(West Bengal Inland Water Transport, Logistics and Spatial Development Project)

Funded by: The World Bank (WB)

Supported and coordinated by the IIR

Duration: 8 months (August 2021-March 2022)

The WBIWTLSDP is a WB development project that aims to support the government of West Bengal in the implementation of Inland Water Transport, Logistics and Spatial Development infrastructure to facilitate the movement of both passengers and freight across the Hooghly River and to plan a spatial framework to enhance accessibility within the Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA). In this project, IIR, jointly with KPMG India, is supporting the World Bank’s actions in the KMA by:

  • Conducting an extensive analysis and stocktaking of the existing agriculture and fisheries cold chain activities.

  • Identifying the current cold chain gaps and present a baseline for the present cold chain needs.

  • Developing a pilot model for IWT integration into the agriculture and fisheries cold chain to promote the deployment of climate-smart and energy-efficient cooling technologies that could contribute to the phase-down of HFCs.

  • Drafting policy briefs and recommendations for decision makers to promote investment actions in the logistics sector and HFC phase-down in the agriculture and fisheries cold chain sector.

LDDP

(The Livestock and Dairy Development Project)

Funded by: The World Bank (WB)

Supported by the IIR

Duration: 8 months (March 2021-October 2022)

The LDDP (Livestock and Dairy Development Project) is a World Bank project that aims to support the agricultural sector in Bangladesh to overcome the social, cultural, and technical challenges encountered in the livestock and dairy sector. More particularly, the project seeks to identify gaps in livestock and diary production related to local practices and provide solutions to help smallholder farmers and agro-entrepreneurs improve livestock and diary production through effective  integration of the sector value chain.

A consultancy team comprising IIR as the management and coordination lead, economic and policy experts from BRAC, BUET, UoB, finance experts from HWU and technical experts from RD&T, has been selected to assist the World Bank in carrying out Technical Assistance on Clean and Energy Efficient cooling solutions for Livestock Value Chains in Bangladesh. The project aims to achieve the following key actions:

  • Assess the market needs in the livestock and dairy value chain, through the identification of cold chain gaps and the identification of refrigeration technology currently applied in the sector.
  • Elaborate a business model based on the identified baseline scenario and investment plans that would help integrate efficient supply chains practices using e.g. clean and sustainable refrigeration technologies, low GWP/natural refrigerants…
  • Provide trainings to targeted stakeholders and develop practical knowledge about efficient cold chain solutions through the preparation of policy briefs for the Government of Bangladesh on economic, public health and environmental impacts of investing in the livestock and dairy products cold chain.
