Hydrocarbon refrigeration and air conditioning: a developing technology.
Author(s) : BLACKLOCK P. G.
Summary
Hydrocarbon refrigerants are not the answer for all air conditioning and refrigeration applications. They do offer clear environment benefit, but it is the commercial benefits of using hydrocarbon refrigerants that are making them more attractive to industry, ie: energy efficiency, material compatibility, component compatibility, lower charge sizes. The key issue is safety and it must not be ignored. However, the industry is already showing that it is perfectly possible to maximise the benefits of flammable refrigerants without compromising safety.
