DESCRIBES EIGHT YEARS' EXPERIENCE OF HEATING A DETACHED HOUSE WITH A SEPARATE ANNEX BY AN ELECTRICALLY-DRIVEN MONOVALENT GROUND HEAT PUMP SUPPLYING A FLOOR HEATING SYSTEM. PASSIVE SOLAR HEATING IS EXPLOITED AND SOLAR COLLECTORS ARE USED TO HEAT DOMESTIC WATER. FOSSIL FUELS SUCH AS OIL OR GAS ARE NOT USED. STATES THAT TO DATE THE SYSTEM HAS OPERATED FAULTLESSLY FOR ALMOST 10,000 HOURS WITH NO MAINTENANCE. ILLUSTRATES AND DESCRIBES THE SYSTEM CONCEPT AND REPORTS AND DISCUSSES THE MAIN OPERATIONAL DATA. COMPARES FIRST, OPERATING AND PRIMARY ENERGY COSTS WITH THOSE FOR A CONVENTIONAL OIL-HEATING SYSTEM.
