Design of an improved reciprocal room-temperature magnetic refrigerator.
Number: sect. 3
Author(s) : JIN P. Y., HUANG J. H., YAN H. W., et al.
Summary
In order to overcome the defaults of their reciprocal magnetic refrigerators early developed, the authors have constructed a new reciprocal magnetic refrigerator adopting digital control technology. This refrigerator still uses active magnetic regenerator cycle by means of reciprocally driving magnet assembly and heat transfer fluid in turn. The magnet assembly with 1.5 T cylindrical gap is made of NdFeB permanent magnets via Halbach type design. The heat transfer fluid is alkalescent deion water. Fixed regenerator bed is composed of two compartments packed with Gd spheres. The driving operation is completed by server motors, programmable logic controller and touch screen. The magnet assembly moving rate and the heat transfer fluid flowing rate can be adjusted in certain range. This refrigerator can be used for systematically testing the relationship between the refrigeration performance and the parameters for some magnetic refrigerant.
