Summary
A transcritical CO2 ejector refrigeration system with integrated mechanical subcooling, that is a novelty of the work, is explored for supermarkets located in hot climates. Efficiency data of real components are used from various OEM databases. Correlations are developed for the variable frequency LT and IMS compressors to estimate the power consumption and mass flow rate. The effect of operating near the pseudocritical point on the performance of the proposed configuration is critically investigated for various range of parameters. The energetic performance of the proposed configuration is also compared with six published configurations from standard literature. Five of them are CO2 systems and one R404A DX system, all having LT load 25 kW and MT load 120 kW. The CO2 systems are: LT and MT overfed evaporators (MEB) system, a multi-ejector system with dry evaporators (ME), a parallel compression system with MT overfed evaporator (PCM), a conventional parallel compression system (PC) and a conventional booster system (CB). For operation in ambient temperature range 30° to 40°C, the COP of the proposed configuration is found to be superior compared to MEB by 0.91% to 15% and to ME by 6.22% to 22.8%. And compared to the R404A DX system, PCM, PC and CB the performance was found to be superior in the range 18.7% to 46.8%, 13.85% to 50.4%, 34.5% to 56.7% and 41.4% to 82.5% respectively for the same range of ambient.
