Summary

The objective of the present research is to represent work losses in the cycle processes as areas on a T-s diagram in the case where the ideal cycle is a reversed Lorentz cycle. First, a theoretical cycle with hot and cold streams was calculated and defined for cases of both refrigeration and heat pump cycles. Then, the difference in the work requirements between theoretical and ideal cycles was divided into work losses caused by the entropy generation in each of the components. It emerged that the work losses were able to be represented as areas on a T-s diagram. Therefore, it can be concluded that novel graphic representation is a useful method to understand processes which should be improved visually and easily to enhance performance of refrigeration systems and heat pumps.
